Clinical Programs

Ethicus is dedicated to the provision of patient care at the highest levels with a focus on specialized clinical protocols that can result in improved outcomes. Defined clinical programs include:

  • Cardiopulmonary conditions resulting from trauma, a severe medical illness or post-operative complications, or from the development of an acute illness superimposed on an underlying illness, such as cardiac disorders, lung disease, malnutrition states. Many of these patients require prolonged respiratory and/or ventilator support, with an emphasis on weaning and recovery. We have specially trained and certified staff focused on observation and intervention for cardiac failure and similar conditions.
  • Neurological and musculoskeletal disorders requiring comprehensive rehabilitation such as brain and spinal cord injuries, degenerative diseases, fractures, joint replacements, amputations and multiple trauma usually complicated by medical instability or de-conditioning following a lengthy illness or surgery precluding the patient from meeting acute rehabilitation criteria.
  • Medically complex conditions having multiple system involvement requiring ongoing assessment and medical management. These include vascular disorders, unstable diabetes, hypertension, arrhythmias, pulmonary edema, renal insufficiency requiring dialysis, infectious processes requiring IV therapy, complicated post surgical recoveries and select cancer conditions.
  • Stage III and IV Wounds caused by vascular or mechanical factors or an infectious process with need to intensive assessment and treatment using specialized medical equipment.

The clinical programs include a high intensity of rehabilitation coupled with a team approach to the patient's needs. The patient teams include the physiatrist, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, pharmacist, nurses, dietician, case manager and treating physician. This team meets at least weekly to discuss the patient’s needs and adjust the treatment plan based on the patient's progress.

In addition, Ethicus commits substantial resources to educating referring hospitals' discharge planners, administration, and area physicians about the benefits of treatment in the long-term acute care hospital setting.
